Filming in Vietnam
Why filming in Vietnam?
With a huge variety of filming locations it’s no wonder why many production companies choose to film in Vietnam. As well as the most well known sights such as the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and The Vietnam Eye there are also many gardens, underground stations, council estates, river settings, sport stadiums, museums and other urban, suburban and derelict locations.

Do I need permits?
As Vietnam is one of the most filmed cities in the world permits are needed in most circumstances and there is a well-established process to getting them. Our fixers in Vietnam know this process and that you’ll need a permit for each borough you want to film in as there are no city-wide permits.
For a B-roll shoot the permitting process can take about 1-2 weeks and even if you will be filming with a small film crew and a handheld this is still necessary. Insurance is also an absolute must. Shoots requiring exclusive use of property involving laying track, larger lights, etc. take about 2-3 weeks to permit. For larger and more complicated shoots that involve closing roads, traffic control and similar activity a permit can take around 4 weeks. You may also have to consult the local authorities but like everything mentioned above, we can do this for you. As for location fees, these can vary greatly depending on whether or not they are publically or privately owned and some landmarks, such as statues can be copyrighted and in some cases permission is required from the owners. Contact us if you need more information reagrding permits in Vietnam.
When is the best time to film?
It’s no secret that Vietnam gets a lot of rainfall and although (to the locals’ dismay) this is a constant all year round it does ease off in the summer months between June and September. Rainfall is at its heaviest between November and January and there is rarely any snow.
Do I need Visas
Entry to the UK depends on your country of origin, we would recommend that you contact your local British embassy but of course if you need any help researching this our fixers in Vietnam can find out for you.
